Subtle notes of toasted grain frame ripe peach and melon in the 2016 Riflemans Chardonnay, which comes from a couple of cool, upland vineyards. As usual, it shows great freshness, combined with ample richness and depth, and a long, silky-textured finish. This is consistently among the top Chardonnays from Hawke's Bay.
Pale straw appearance. Lifted aromas of lemon meringue, mandarin peel and grapefruit over-laid with complex notes of almond biscotti, hazelnut and toasted brioche. Powerful entry with citrus and lemon meringue notes, complex mid-palate with roasted hazelnut and lemon curd lead to a crescendo finish with intense notes of tangerine, mandarin peel and white truffle.
