87–89. Barrel Sample. The acidity and the wood are considerable, while the fruit is very suppressed. The wine feels hollow in the middle.
Medium-weight plum and blackberry fruit melds nicely with a singed vanilla bean note before gliding through the gentle finish. Drink now. 2,830 cases made.
A soft and silky wine with some chocolate and cedar character. Medium to light body, light tannins. Drink now.
The 2013 Le Dragon de Quintus, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, has a light, cranberry and strawberry-scented bouquet that feels a little one-dimensional compared to recent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a keen line of acidity and moderate depth. Approachable now with agreeable tension on the finish, perhaps I was a little mean towards this deuxième vin out of barrel. It is rather short but it should give some drinking pleasure over the next 2-3 years.
56.5% Merlot, 30.5% Cabernet Franc, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. Very ripe blueberry sort of flavour. Light palate, very soft tannins. Pure and well formed, without any greenness. Brief finish. Richard Hemming MW
