The 2012 Carjcanti is Carricante with a tiny percentage of Albanello. This is a fabulous white wine with its own distinct personality. First, the bouquet is unlike most Sicilian whites in that its floral component is very pronounced. White jasmine and honeysuckle are followed by peach blossom and bitter almond. These aromas are both generous and enduring. A touch of smoked oak or flint appears on the close.
This is a blend of Carricante and Albanello white grapes native to Mount Iblea in the Ragusa province of Sicily, where they have been cultivated for centuries. On the nose intense aromas of volcanic earth, green apple, lemon tart with hints of vanilla, nuts and almond. On the palate, it's a medium to full-bodied, dry with great interplay between a waxy density and refreshing acidity. Rich mouthfeel with little minerality. Nice light spicy finish with anise tones.
